The results showed that more than <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/12012947\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">95% of those surveyed sneezed and blew their nose less than 4 times a day<\/a>, on average. The study concluded that a higher number may be a sign of <a href=\"https:\/\/palmettoentallergy.com\/nose\/sinus\/rhinitis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rhinitis<\/a>, which is an inflammation and swelling in the nose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Common Sneezing Triggers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We sneeze for a variety of different reasons, but a few of the most common sneezing causes include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/palmettoentallergy.com\/allergy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Allergies <\/a>to things like pollen, dust mites or pet dander<\/li><li>Viruses like the cold or flu<\/li><li>Environmental irritants like smoke or air pollution<\/li><li>Trauma to the nose<\/li><li>Using nasal sprays<\/li><li>Exposure to cold air<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2>Treating the Causes of Sneezing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Some causes of sneezing don\u2019t require any additional treatment, but others, like allergies and certain viruses, may need to be addressed with at-home remedies or a visit to the doctor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you believe that allergies are causing your sneezing, try to eliminate or minimize your exposure to your triggers. This may include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Keeping the windows of your house and car closed<\/li><li>Avoiding outdoor areas like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scfc.gov\/state-forests\/harbison-state-forest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Harbison State Forest<\/a> when pollen counts are high<\/li><li>Using a dehumidifier in the house to prevent mold from growing<\/li><li>Regularly vacuuming the carpet and furniture<\/li><li>Not allowing pets in your bedroom<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Allergies may also require the use of over-the-counter or prescription-strength medicines like antihistamines. In some cases, your allergist may recommend immunotherapy, administered as allergy shots or drops. This is a type of treatment that helps build a tolerance to a certain allergen by introducing it to the body in small amounts over a course of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your sneezing is due to a virus like the cold or flu, you often just need to give your body time to rest and recover while making sure to drink lots of fluids.
