In most instances, a child\u2019s cough is nothing to worry about. In children, colds can often produce a wet, productive cough which means it produces mucus or phlegm. Medical attention is rarely needed for a cold, and most kids recover in a few days after getting some rest and plenty of fluids.<\/li><li><strong>RSV:<\/strong> Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) has similar symptoms to a cold but can be much more serious and potentially life-threatening in infants and young children. If your child has labored breathing that is hard and fast and\/or you can see their chest sinking in and ribs going out with each breath, contact their doctor immediately.<\/li><li><strong>Asthma:<\/strong> Asthma is a common childhood illness. One symptom of asthma is a chronic cough that is worsened by certain triggers, such as cold air, having a virus, excitement, exercise, laughing, and being exposed to certain pollutants or triggers like cigarette smoke or poor air quality. Contact a doctor if your child\u2019s cough is accompanied by wheezing during exhalation.<\/li><li><strong>Allergies:<\/strong> Seasonal <a href=\"https:\/\/palmettoentallergy.com\/allergy\/pediatric-allergy-sinus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">allergies<\/a> can cause a cough in some children. Additionally, they will experience symptoms including nasal congestion, runny nose, itchy, watery eyes and sneezing. Unlike a cold, allergies should not cause a fever or body aches. Their symptoms might also be more noticeable in places where pollen is high, like <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/southcarolinaparks.com\/sesqui\" target=\"_blank\">Sesquicentennial State Park<\/a>. If your child has persistent allergy symptoms, their doctor may recommend allergy medication in addition to avoiding their exposure to triggers whenever possible.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-if-my-childs-cough-wont-go-away\">What if My Child\u2019s Cough Won\u2019t Go Away?<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019ve tried letting your child rest along with other home remedies and their cough seems to be lingering, it may be time to make an appointment with a doctor.
