When you hear the term ear infection<\/a>, what you\u2019re usually thinking of is a middle ear infection. These infections occur due to a buildup of fluid behind the eardrum. However, there are actually several different types of ear infections, including a fungal infection known as otomycosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Otomycosis is a fungal infection of the outer ear. Anyone can develop this type of infection. However, it’s more likely to happen in people who live in warm, tropical climates or those who engage in frequent water sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While many different types of fungus can cause ear infections, most commonly, they are caused by either Aspergillu<\/em>s or Candida. <\/em>The Cleveland Clinic states that Aspergillus<\/em> causes roughly 90% of all fungal ear infections<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
